What is NLP?

NLP can be described in many ways, depending on the observer's viewpoint.

At least it's easier to explain than Zen.

NLP is a profoundly powerful suite of tools for dealing with people's individual reality.

NLP is about how our human brains think; how we can achieve change in our own lives; how we relate to other people; and how we learn from excellence.

The core of the NLP understandings include how we deal with our own beliefs, our relationships and our perception of time.

It is based on discoveries about how people work. The applications (various techniques) are inventive ways of using the basic principles. NLP is very oriented to what works.

NLP is a practical way of thinking about who we are as humans.

NLP has long been about helping people get change in their lives, or helping them make change in other people.

Sometimes this has attracted people who really do need to change their lives, or people who wanted to have undue power over other people. In the words of a famous NLP trainer we believe in "Influencing with Integrity".

However it does raise a significant issue in the NLP community that we hope this website will partly begin to address. The use of these techniques to bolster egos.

There's a lot of NLP already about in popular culture - in the concepts of being 'visual, auditory, or kinesthetic' for example.

NLP was very much in vogue in the 80's and 90's, when many people got a basic idea of how it worked, especially as a sales tool.

With the partial reconciliation of the formerly feuding co-founders, and the creation of 'New Code NLP', it may be about to make a resurgence.

NLP isn't a religion, nor a cult, although some practitioners can be a little fervent.

We'd encourage you to have a look at one of the many NLP books around, but particularly recommend the works of Joseph O'Connor.

We will try to explain the processes we use as we go. Although often you don't need to know for them to be effective.

Our aim is to use the techniques to deepen your own spiritual experience. Our personal preference is for Buddhism, but we believe that the experiences ZENLP may offer you could be transparently laid over whatever your religion may be.
